Situated in the Danube Delta, this single-family house embodies the essence of its surroundings and is nestled within an ethnic community that strongly upholds its socio-cultural duties. The objective was to enhance, renovate, and enlarge the house while adhering to a contemporary interpretation of the region’s traditional architectural style. Alongside local architectural principles, the project also incorporated sustainable practices, biophilia, and contextual and referential architecture.

The house was designed to blend harmoniously with the surrounding environment, utilizing local materials and construction techniques. Traditional elements, such as folded metal roofs, timber decorative motifs, were incorporated into the design to maintain a sense of continuity with the local architectural heritage.

The expansion of the house was carefully planned to minimize the impact on the natural landscape, with strategic positioning and orientation to optimize natural lighting and ventilation. Inside the house, the principles of biophilia were applied to create a connection between the occupants and the natural world. Windows and open spaces allow for ample views of the surrounding landscape, while indoor plants and natural materials create a soothing and revitalizing atmosphere. The house also serves as a showcase for the community’s socio-cultural responsibility. Local artisans areinvolved in the construction process, promoting traditional craftsmanship and supporting the local economy.

Overall, the single-family house in the Danube Delta is a testament to the successful integration of contemporary design principles with local traditions and sustainable practices. It not only provides a comfortable and modern living space for its occupants but also contributes to the preservation and celebration of the region’s unique natural and cultural heritage.
